Web Designer

Web designer generally is responsible for the page layouts, visual appearance and usability of a website. This role may overlap with that of a programmer and web architect. Using a combination of graphic design skills and technical knowledge of how web pages are created, the main responsibilities include:

Closely interact with the development team at the design stage
Create website design that will be attractive to the target user, has a proper navigation system and has all the features intented in the website
Create web pages, source code using different technologies such as HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Action script, Cold Fusion, .Net, ASP, PHP, Perl, Flash, or using code generating programs
Decide how images and other material will be digitally optimized and presented
Ensure that material on the website is accessible
Test the site for functionality in different browsers
Fix errors
Other website design tasks depending upon the scope of work

Web designer need to have knowledge of graphics in order to produce basic layout and manipulate images. Skills in ecommerce and server side technologies, such as SHTML, PHP and .Net, and internet security are also important. Web designers with other advanced skills in multimedia and interactivity are preferred for Web 2.0 or higher versions. At the time of design web designers also pay attention for search engine optimization (SEO) so that website is search engine and user friendly.
