HTTP

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. HTTP is an internet protocol that is used by world wide web browsers and web servers to exchange information. HTTP protocol makes it possible for users to use a client program to enter a URL or click a hyperlink and retrieve text, graphics, sound, and other digital information from a web server. URLs of files on web servers begin with http:// such as http://www.sarvpratham.com.

HTTPS is same as HTTP but in addition a secure socket layer (SSL) is added for encryption of data. The secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) is designed to transfer encrypted information between computers over the world wide web. SSL is an encryption protocol invoked on a web server that uses HTTPS. Most of the e-commerce shopping or online purchases or exchange of private confidential information is done using HTTPS.
