Website Traffic
Web traffic is the amount of data downloaded, uploaded or requested by users from a web site. This is determined by the number of users and the amount of data their queries generated for exchange between the web server and the clients. Usually, on web servers users visits are monitored for the incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts of the website or web pages are most popular and seen by the users. This helps in analyzing any apparent trends or which products or services users may be interested in. Web traffic can be analyzed by viewing the traffic statistics maintained by software programs on the web server. Usage tracking software application programs external to the web site can also record traffic by inserting a small piece of script in the HTML code of the website pages. Tracking programs usually gather and collate the following, but not limited to, type of traffic data: Number of visitors Page views per visitor Visit time duration Page duration Domain classes Popular view time of the visitors Most visited pages Most visited entry pages Exit pages Referrers
